The Ford Foundation seeks a two-year Technology Fellow for Digital Safety and Security to expand the foundation's ability to support grantee digital safety and security. Civil society organizations face targeted information security threats yet many lack the resources and training to maintain robust digital security. Reporting to the Director, Office of the Vice President for U.S. Programs, the Fellow will identify field-building opportunities in the public-interest digital safety and security field, work directly with program officers across US and global teams to integrate digital security capacity into Ford's technical assistance programs, provide strategic support to high-risk grantees, and assess strategic gaps in the ecosystem for safety and security providers. The Technology Fellows Program is administered by Ford's Technology and Society Program and is designed to increase sociotechnical capacity within the Foundation. Requirements include a minimum of 7 years' professional experience with media, technology, advocacy or policy organizations; a baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience; sophisticated knowledge of existing and emerging technologies with a focus on surveillance technologies and organizational digital safety and security; and experience designing, implementing or supporting digital safety and security solutions in a complex global setting. Hybrid role based in New York (three days per week in office) with approximately 10 to 20 percent domestic and international travel. Circuit Breakers '26 is a tech worker conference organised by volunteers from across the tech labour movement, bringing together workers, organisers and activists in the tech industry to learn, build community and strategise. Tech Workers Coalition defines tech workers broadly, from software engineers and salespeople to warehouse workers and ride-share drivers. The conference centres rank-and-file organising, with workers sharing stories, running skills trainings and leading debates. The open call for proposals welcomes sessions on all aspects of labour organising in tech, with particular interest in three areas: Labor Organizing Against Imperialism; Tech Workers Taking on Technology (layoffs, surveillance, worker control over AI and automation); and Bold Strategy (solidarity, membership structures, return-to-office actions, cross-border organising). TechCongress places technologists in the US Congress to build technology capacity among Members and Congressional staff, where fewer than 3% of legislative staff have a technical background. For the January 2027 cohort it is recruiting up to twenty fellows (10 for Democratic offices, 10 for Republican offices) across two tiers: the Senior Congressional Innovation Fellowship (mid-career, at least eight years of work or postgraduate study) and the Congressional Innovation Fellowship (early-career, two to six years of experience, including a recently finished or projected-by-January-2027 graduate technical degree such as a Masters or PhD; applicants with seven years qualify for an intermediate tier). Fellows choose a placement with a Member of Congress or a Congressional Committee, report to a senior staffer (such as a Chief of Staff or Staff Director), and do work similar to other Congressional staff: researching tech policy (cyber and election security, data and biometric privacy, AI policy, autonomous vehicles, health IT, encryption, disinformation), educating Members and staff, writing legislation, preparing Committee hearings, markups and investigations, and building coalitions. No prior government experience is required; the fellowship is first and foremost an educational experience. This year TechCongress also seeks at least two fellows from non-traditional verticals: climate (grid modernization, clean energy, NEPA reform), government innovation (govtech and digital benefits delivery, civil service reform), and science, research and innovation (NSF, NIH, DoE, FDA reform, clinical trials). Technical degrees or experience in engineering, development, journalism, scientific, legal or government roles are encouraged.
