Global Artivism, a Global Majority-led movement that engages the power of arts and culture toward a just world on a safe planet, is contracting a Governance Fellow for a mentored, time-limited engagement focused on governance systems, democratic institutional design, and Global Majority-led movement infrastructure. The contractor supports the development and maintenance of Global Artivism's governance architecture, including documentation, committee coordination, and research that supports the Democratic Transition process, and is expected to take initiative on assigned tasks and grow through structured mentorship. The movement is governed by a Global Council with a Movement Secretariat coordination team; the Fellow coordinates primarily with the Governance Lead alongside the Operations Director, Secretariat members, and Council committees (coordination relationships do not constitute supervisory authority). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: governance documentation (frameworks, committee charters, terms of reference, process documentation; maintaining an organized, current, consistently formatted document library; preparing materials for Global Council meetings); committee coordination (scheduling, materials, meeting notes, follow-up, trackers of decisions and action items, agendas and briefing packs); Democratic Transition and electoral process support (research on governance models, electoral processes, and democratic participation mechanisms; drafting materials for the Democratic Transition Roadmap 2025-2027; preparing electoral framework and testing documentation; tracking milestones); and governance research (comparative analyses and briefing notes; staying current on distributed governance, participatory democracy, and decentralized leadership; contributing to knowledge products). REQUIRED: manages multiple documentation tasks and meets deadlines with attention to accuracy and formatting (experience via union organizing, participatory facilitation, cooperative governance, or community-based decision-making counts alongside academic or formal work history); good written English; ability to take initiative and work independently; genuine interest in governance, movement building, or institutional design; ability to operate as an independent contractor; and commitment to Global Artivism's values. PREFERRED: background in governance, law, political science, or international development; interest in Global Majority leadership and distributed power; civil society/NGO/movement experience; familiarity with arts, culture, or social justice movements; multilingual ability in languages relevant to Global South contexts. Working alongside the Operations Director, the contractor designs operational frameworks spanning financial workflows, contractor management, governance alignment, and onboarding, contributing directly to infrastructure decisions while building practical experience in how a Global Majority-led movement organization functions operationally. The Fellow coordinates primarily with the Operations Director alongside the Governance Lead, Project Manager, Admin Coordinator, and Secretariat members (coordination relationships do not constitute supervisory authority; decision-making is distributed through governance structures and committees). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: infrastructure design and framework development (designing and documenting operational frameworks; contributing to staffing models, organizational structures, and resource frameworks that enable both centralized and decentralized work; designing onboarding and operational guidance; aligning operational systems with governance frameworks and democratic decision-making); systems and knowledge documentation (operational guidance and toolkits for distributed teams; internal knowledge systems such as documentation, checklists, and decision trees); and capacity building and research (identifying where documentation or systems redesign enables teams to work more independently; flagging operational bottlenecks and proposing solutions; sharing learning with Council, committees, and teams; researching operational models relevant to Global Artivism's structure).
