The Schaufler Lab at TUD Dresden University of Technology, a joint project with The Schaufler Foundation, invites applications for its six-month artist-in-residence at the interface of art and science for 2027. The theme of the Lab's third funding phase (2027 to 2030) is Energy Cultures in Transition: how forms of energy and energy transitions shape and are shaped by cultural practices, value systems, power relations, environmental relationships and imaginaries of the future. Residents work with the researchers of the Schaufler Kolleg graduate college and the wider university, with access to humanities, natural-science and engineering labs, and give lectures, talks and workshops, including a collaboration with the Dresden University of Fine Arts. Past residents include Quadrature, Mario Pfeifer, Rosa Barba and Esmeralda Conde Ruiz. ELIGIBILITY: internationally active artists or artist groups in media art, conceptual art, performance and related fields with completed international projects and exhibitions, an interest in exchange between artistic and scientific research, and proficient German or English; presence on site in Dresden is required by arrangement. Leitrim Sculpture Centre (LSC), with Leitrim County Council, offers up to four Exhibition Residencies for visual artists in 2027. Each residency lasts up to eight weeks, between mid-February and mid-November 2027, and ends with a one-person exhibition at the Centre. ALLOCATION: up to one residency for an artist based in Leitrim; up to three for artists from elsewhere in Ireland or internationally, including artists from minority ethnic and migrant backgrounds. SUPPORT: EUR 4,000 artist fee (inclusive); a private studio apartment with broadband; access to all of the Centre's facilities; free specialist technical support from LSC staff for up to 20 hours a month; free exhibition installation support; and curatorial support. The Athens Digital Arts Festival, Greece's long-running digital arts festival, has opened its call for the 23rd edition in spring 2027 under the theme "It's Alive..." (Dr. Frankenstein's line, reread for an age when we feel the same relief when the Wi-Fi comes back). CATEGORIES: Video Art, Installations, Performances, Animation, Games, Web Art, AR/VR/XR, Music, Talks, Workshops and ADAF Kids. Up to 4 entries per category, one form per work; digital-image collections of up to 5 works can share one application. Videos max 30 minutes (online file up to 2 GB in .avi, .mpeg or .mov, or a Vimeo link). Unrealised works with a complete concept and design are eligible if they can be ready about two months before the festival. Curators share applications across categories, so a work may be accepted in a different one. Shortlisted artists are contacted by email; others are not notified. NO ENTRY FEE. Realities in Transition (RiT2), a Creative Europe XR cooperation project, and Beta Festival in Ireland invite artists, technologists, storytellers, engineers, hackers and designers to develop XR, interactive, multi-user work that explores technology through relationships between human, artificial and more-than-human intelligence, with a focus on decolonial thinking and interdependence. Three artists are selected, each paired with a creative technologist and working as a group. WHAT YOU GET: a EUR 15,000 grant per artist for a six-month hybrid residency from March to August 2027, with an in-person period at Beta in May to June 2027, a Test Lab in June 2027 and a showcase at Beta Festival in November 2027. Kintai Arts, a contemporary art centre and gallery in the village of Kintai near the Curonian Lagoon in western Lithuania, invites proposals for three exhibitions in its 2027 programme. New and already-existing exhibitions in contemporary art practices are both eligible, from solo artists, groups or curators. Each selected exhibition receives a EUR 700 artist fee, up to EUR 300 towards transport, accommodation for the duration of the show, and exhibition documentation and communication. Exact dates and openings are agreed individually within the three slots (1 April to 15 May, 18 June to 30 July, 1 October to 15 November 2027). ELIGIBILITY: no nationality or residence requirement; because of financial limits, exhibitions previously shown in Lithuania are prioritised, and applicants from abroad should account for that. ART4MENTAL is a Creative Europe project (partners in Ukraine, Poland, Czechia, Estonia, Sweden and Austria) selecting 20 artists to create immersive VR content and scenarios used in art-therapy and mental-health support sessions across Ukraine and the EU. Selected artists get professional training in VR technology and trauma-informed design, local bootcamps, a residency in Ukraine's Carpathian Mountains, study visits to rehabilitation centres, ongoing collaboration with mental-health professionals, and present their work at European exhibitions and conferences, including an international exhibition in Poland. ELIGIBILITY: the official page says residents of EU countries and Ukraine with a proven artistic practice and full availability for all mandatory activities; the On the Move listing adds that at least 10 of the 20 places go to artists from Ukraine and at least one each to Czechia, Estonia, Sweden and Austria, so applicants from other EU countries are eligible but not prioritised. SAHA Studio is SAHA Association's research and production residency in Istanbul. The 13th term selects five professionally practising visual artists (duos and collectives allowed; no medium or age requirement) for six months of studio work with a budget, curatorial feedback, mid-term gatherings and a closing 'SAHA Studio Open' presentation. Projects must not be preparation for a commercial gallery show. SELECTION: a preliminary jury of seven former residents, then a Selection and Advisory Board interviews a shortlist of ten; evaluation runs 15 November to 22 December 2026. Witte Rook (Breda) and the Ukrainian platform IZOLYATSIA run Digital Explorers (Across Borders), a fully online residency program exploring the artist-in-residence of the future through cross-border collaboration. Each of three phases pairs one artist from the Netherlands with one from Ukraine, working together for about three months on the common.garden platform. WHAT YOU GET: EUR 1,800 fee plus EUR 1,000 material budget per artist (both excluding VAT), expert discussions, technical support, a physical and online exhibition (final exhibitions planned for spring 2028) and a published article about the creative process. International interdisciplinary residency run by the Democracy Foundation in Kuldiga, Latvia, as part of the Liepaja 2027 European Capital of Culture programme. Six participants from different fields and European countries explore new ways not only to talk about democracy but to experience it, developing activities for the Kuldiga Democracy Festival, engaging the local community and experimenting with formats that make audiences active participants. WHO: artists, cultural practitioners, designers, educators, researchers, civic activists and people from other professional backgrounds; applicants must be residents of European countries. DATES: 3-23 August 2027. SUPPORT: accommodation in Kuldiga's Old Town; a EUR 1,000 stipend per participant to cover expenses including travel; and a separate budget of up to EUR 1,000 per participant for developing and implementing their activity. FOTODOKS, the Munich festival for contemporary documentary photography, invites existing lens-based, documentary-driven projects on the theme of care and its connections to politics, emotions and intimate relationships for its 13th edition in October 2027. Selected works are shown in a group exhibition and included in the festival catalogue and on the FOTODOKS website; the curatorial team also invites some artists directly. WHO: individuals, collectives and groups of all backgrounds, ages and genders; submissions in English or German. One residency for a freelance audio practitioner (composer, sound designer, audio maker, artist or researcher) registered in the Netherlands, to develop an existing project into a spatial, story-led sound work. STRUCTURE: a two-day introductory course in immersive audio, then three days of studio work in IAN's mobile Immersive Audio Lab (a dome with 25 Genelec loudspeakers and 3 subwoofers, Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 and Ambisonics up to fourth order; own computer and software welcome), ending with a public work-in-progress at the IAN Festival at Arnolfini, Bristol. RESEARCH FOCUS: sound-first storytelling, sonic stories for and by multiple audiences including the non-human, and the whole body in space as the site of immersive experience. 23rd edition of Festival Opera Prima in Rovigo, Italy, selecting performances for 9-13 June 2027. Open to single artists and emerging or independent professional companies in contemporary theatre, dance and performing arts, from Italy and abroad, in any legal form able to handle the administration of a performance. FOCUS: experimental theatre, meaning work that experiments with dramaturgy (as scenic composition), the actor, the spectator and the scenic space. Amateur work, drama theatre and entertainment shows are not selected. WORKS: original works not yet performed, or works debuting in the 2026/2027 season; maximum 60 minutes. Selected artists may not perform the work within 80 km of Rovigo from 60 days before to 30 days after the festival, and may be asked to give several performances on the same day. SUBMIT (one proposal per group or artist) via the online form: artistic CV, artistic presentation and technical rider, and a link to a full video of the performance (or of rehearsals for a debut) viewable online, not as a download. A development lab for XR and new media projects at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival's industry section AGORA, for emerging storytellers working across film, digital media, new technologies and performing arts. Lead mentor: Vassiliki Khonsari (co-founder, iNK Stories). Up to five projects are selected. FORMAT: online preparation and project-enhancement workshop in mid-January 2027, then the lab in Thessaloniki on 6-11 March 2027 with industry meetings scheduled from professionals' requests and the AGORA team, plus online meetings on 12 March. The UNESCO City of Media Arts Office of Karlsruhe's Department of Cultural Affairs awards the dm-Award connecting worlds, with dm-drogerie markt as awarding partner, ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe as curatorial partner and KME as organiser of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival. Under the motto PLAYGROUND, the call seeks projects that connect the digital space of the projection mappings on Karlsruhe Palace's facade with the analogue space of the Market Square, playfully activating public space. FORMAT: every project must have two elements: a projection mapping on the palace facade (2 to 5 minutes) and at least one satellite on the Market Square that also works independently of the projection and is publicly and freely accessible. Examples include interactive projections and game elements with audience participation, installations or media artworks relating to the projection, combinations of performance, concerts or actions with projection mapping, sculptural, 3D or immersive formats, new technologies, and collaborations between local and international players. Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory invites artists to present and sell existing works at Parameter, a generative arts fair held during the Adela Festival 2027 at Kino Siska in Ljubljana. The call seeks work connected to a broader community engaging art, open-source technologies, creative coding, media archaeology, permacomputing and experimental electronics, broadening current concepts and implementations of generativity. First edition of an international competition for short live performances of around fifteen minutes in dance and physical theatre, run by Music & Movie ETS within the InterAgendo project. Works must carry an ethical, civic or social theme. Six companies are selected to perform in Sassari on 6-8 May 2027 in front of a National Jury, a Schools and Community Jury and a Territorial Jury. MONEY: each selected company receives a guaranteed gross fee of EUR 500 (solo), EUR 700 (duo) or EUR 900 (three or more performers) plus three nights' accommodation; the Best Work Award is EUR 1,000 and the Reflections Award EUR 400. The 21st edition of Horizons Arts-Nature en Sancy, an open-air art exhibition in the Massif du Sancy (Auvergne, France) running 19 June to 26 September 2027. The Sancy Tourist Office commissions 10 ephemeral, site-specific plastic artworks made for the landscape, installed across the towns and villages of the Sancy community; each proposal must be an in situ installation in which work and site interact. Sites are chosen for their aesthetic and artistic qualities, diversity of locations and proximity to visitor access and facilities. Open to individual artists and groups or collectives. The 30th Roze Filmdagen, Amsterdam's LGBTQ+ film festival, is accepting short films, feature films, documentaries and animations with a clear connection to LGBTQ+ themes and sexual, gender and cultural diversity, for its edition of 10-21 March 2027. AWARDS: Jury and Audience Awards with cash prizes in three categories (best feature, best documentary, best short) and the Hivos-initiated Free to be Me Award, also with a cash prize; the festival nominates for the Iris Prize in Cardiff. make-a-thek, a Horizon Europe project (grant No. 101177660) coordinated by Fab Lab Barcelona at IAAC, connects creative spaces, public libraries and makers across Europe and beyond to share skills in circular fashion, traditional crafts and technology. Its open call runs two tracks. MOBILITY SCHEME (Track A): experienced practitioners (make-a-thek Experts) travel to an EU pilot location (Antwerp, Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Helsinki, Kranj, Milan, Opole, Reykjavik, Kyiv or Zaporizhzhia) to deliver a workshop, talk or hands-on training, with a EUR 1,000 stipend to support expenses. Amsterdam Light Festival invites light art concepts for its 16th edition (2027-2028), presented along and on the canals of Amsterdam. WHO: creatives from all over the world, individually or as a team; multiple submissions are allowed and existing work may be considered. A second strand, Open Call X Amarte (supported by the Amarte Fonds), is for makers based in the Netherlands who are new to the medium of light art and seeks concepts for walking visitors. WHAT YOU GET: an artist fee of EUR 4,000, with the costs of producing the artwork and travel covered, plus technical support from the festival; Amarte selections receive an EUR 4,000 fee and a EUR 20,000 production budget. Open Call #3 of IN SITU PLATFORM 2025-2028, the Creative Europe-funded network of 27 programmers supporting artistic creation in public space, for emerging artists with a project in development (beyond the idea stage, not yet premiered or toured) intended for public space or non-conventional venues, with potential to be presented around summer 2028. WHAT YOU GET: an online preparation and training programme (March to June 2027: peer-to-peer sessions with experienced IN SITU artists, learning videos, three support sessions with On the Move), a page and video pitch in the IN SITU online catalogue, and one six-day immersive lab at a partner festival (labs on 10-15 May, 31 May-6 June, 28 June-3 July, 26-31 July and 6-12 September 2027; about 15 artists each) with workshops, performances and a pitch to international programmers. The lab includes a EUR 1,500 writing aid fee, travel up to EUR 300 and accommodation and meals. Akbank Sanat's long-running Istanbul short film festival is accepting films for its 23rd edition, across all themes and genres: fiction, documentary, experimental and animation. Films must run 1 to 30 minutes and be completed after 1 January 2026. The National Competition is limited to Republic of Turkiye citizens; the International Competition is open to filmmakers from all countries. Akbank employees cannot apply. Go Short, the international short film festival in Nijmegen, is open for entries for its 19th edition (6 to 11 April 2027). A small, approachable Dutch festival that programmes fiction, documentary, animation and experimental shorts. COMPETITIONS: the European Competition (fiction, documentary, animation, experimental), the Dutch Competition, and the New Arrivals Competition for European film school projects, plus a Music Video Competition and a separate strand for video games, VR/XR, performances and installations, which makes it a natural target for expanded-media and installation-based video work. The European Media Art Festival (EMAF) in Osnabrueck invites submissions for its 2027 edition in three sections: Film (experimental films of all lengths and any theme), Installation (installative, interactive, spatial or sculptural media art works) and Expanded (performances, live events or workshops). WHAT YOU GET: all films selected for the International Selection are equal winners of the EMAF Award with EUR 400 prize money each; films in the Features section (over 60 minutes) receive a EUR 250 screening fee; curated programmes pay EUR 80-250 depending on length; installations and expanded projects receive a EUR 500 fee with production costs paid by the festival. Selected artists are invited to the festival with free accreditation, three hotel nights (potentially longer if setting up is required) and a contribution to travel costs. RULES: maximum 2 works per artist; only works completed in 2026 or 2027 are eligible; no premiere status required; works entered at previous editions will not be reconsidered. Films up to 60 minutes are viewed for the International Selection, films over 60 minutes for Features. Installation entries should relate to the 2027 festival theme of the archive (as an instrument of knowledge production, a site of critical intervention and a space for alternative visions of the future); Installation and Expanded entries must include a comprehensive description, tech rider, cost calculation and visual materials. Non-English-language works must have English subtitles for the selection screening. Submit digitally via the EMAF registration portal (no DVDs or physical media). Open call (Open Oproep Cultuureducatie en Digitale Technologie) for cultural education projects in which children and young people work creatively with digital technology. Run by the Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie with LKCA and DEN. WHO: cultural institutions or cultural professionals based in Amsterdam, Friesland, Noord-Brabant or the Caribbean Netherlands, who are not themselves the regional Cultuureducatie met Kwaliteit (CmK) lead. PARTNERS: you must always work with one or more schools (primary, secondary or special education) and with the regional CmK lead (MOCCA in Amsterdam, Keunstwurk in Friesland, Kunstloc in Noord-Brabant, and named foundations on Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius). FUNDED: developing, preparing, running, monitoring and evaluating the project, plus teacher or partner training needed for it. NOT FUNDED: building a new app, tool or digital platform; projects that have already started. NewImages Festival, the Paris festival for XR and immersive creation, opens three competitions for its 2027 edition. XR COMPETITION: works completed in 2026 or 2027 in VR, AR, mixed reality, narrative video games and hybrid performances; Grand Prize EUR 6,000, Impact Award EUR 3,000; fee EUR 75 Early Bird / EUR 100 Last Call (individual talents EUR 45 / EUR 60). Part of Mophradat's Art Time residencies: a three-week residency at BUDA in Kortrijk, Belgium, for a performing artist from the Arab world finalising a new production, culminating in its premiere at NEXT Festival. Fields: performance, dance and interdisciplinary contemporary performance; unconventional projects with experimental forms or progressive discourses are encouraged. Concert proposals are not eligible. ELIGIBILITY: Mophradat's general criteria (artists from the Arab world) plus: must have developed and presented previous works; must be working on a new, original project in contemporary performance; must be in the final development phase by September 2027 with confirmed co-producers and/or a financing plan, since the residency only partially covers production costs. Previous unsuccessful applicants may reapply. SUPPORT: an overall EUR 10,000, all included, covering travel and visa costs, residency per diems, coproduction costs and a presentation fee for the NEXT Festival performance, plus accommodation; partners help with visa applications and compensate the project if travel is impossible due to visa refusal. The 73rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (27 April to 2 May 2027), one of the oldest and most influential short film festivals, opens its call for films across five competitions: International (max 35 minutes, produced outside Germany, German festival premiere required), German (max 45 minutes, produced in Germany, no premiere requirement), NRW (max 45 minutes, produced or co-produced in North Rhine-Westphalia), International Children's and Youth Film, and the MuVi Award for music videos produced in Germany (max 15 minutes). ELIGIBILITY: works produced after 1 January 2026; screening formats 35mm, 16mm, Super 8 and DCP (MuVi: DCP). PRIZES: from the EUR 8,000 Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen and EUR 4,000 Principal Prize through German, NRW, children's/youth, FIPRESCI, Ecumenical and audience prizes, awarded to the directors, plus European Film Awards and ECFA nominations. FEES: the first five submissions per submitter are free of charge; from the sixth, a EUR 20 handling fee per film applies. Winter round of Germany's flagship open, non-thematic federal project line, one of the largest European funders that will back a festival, exhibition programme or multi-partner convening run by an organisation rather than an individual artist. It funds large innovative projects across all artistic fields, explicitly including New Media alongside visual and performing arts, music, film, photography and architecture. There is no published maximum, but the EUR 50,000 minimum total project cost sets the scale, and at least 20 percent co-financing is mandatory. This round closes 31 January 2027 at 12:00 CET, with decisions at the external jury meeting in May 2027; no project may start before its jury date, so plan four to six months of lead time. Non-German organisations are genuinely eligible, which is unusual at this scale, provided the project is visible in Germany and has an international dimension. Two practical barriers: the application form must be completed in German, and project communications must include a German-language version.
The Netherland-America Foundation funds professional artistic and cultural projects that show a clear exchange between Dutch and American artists, institutions or audiences, such as exhibitions, performances and other cultural initiatives that promote dialogue and collaboration. Both emerging artists and established organisations may apply. NOT FUNDED: applicants who are not working cultural professionals, seminar attendance, degree tuition, residencies, research, projects without a Dutch-American connection (these are not forwarded to the committee), and projects already underway or finished at the time of review. TIMING: apply at least 6 months before the money is needed; a letter of intent is optional and encouraged for projects 9 or more months out, after which the committee may invite a full application. Artist's Fee reimburses part of the compensation an institution pays an artist for work on an exhibition: producing new work, production-related labour, event activities, and providing artwork for presentation. It does not cover expenses such as materials or transport. WHO CAN APPLY: visual arts institutions in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom that publicly exhibit contemporary visual art and/or heritage without a sales objective, and that subscribe to the Fair Practice Code, the Culture Governance Code and the Diversity and Inclusion Code. CONDITIONS: the artist must hold a bachelor's degree in visual arts or have at least three years of professional experience; the fee must comply with the Fair Pay Rate Table 2023; the application must be submitted at least two months before the exhibition opens; the exhibition must open within 12 months of application; artist invoices must be paid within one month; and institutions already receiving other fair pay funding for 2025-2028 are not eligible. AMOUNT: up to 50% of the standard amount excluding VAT where the fee meets at least 100% of the guideline, with a minimum application of EUR 100. The scheme backs activities that reach diverse audiences or create meaningful public engagement with art and heritage. WHO CAN APPLY: non-profit organisations based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom; institutions for art education and post-academic institutions are excluded. NOT FUNDED: journals, publications, documentaries, symposia, conferences or online-only festivals. CONDITIONS: events must be publicly accessible and held no more than once a year; the project cannot receive simultaneous funding from other Mondriaan Fund grants or specified national cultural programmes; the organisation must subscribe to the Fair Practice Code, the Culture Governance Code and the Diversity and Inclusion Code; and fair artist compensation is mandatory where artists are involved. WHO CAN APPLY: cultural institutions in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom that focus on presenting cultural heritage and/or visual art, including museums, art centres and archives; art education and post-academic institutions are excluded, and the institution must be a non-profit legal entity established in the eligible territory. CONDITIONS: presentations must be open to the public; festivals, biennales and other events recurring annually or less often are handled by the separate Art Heritage Festival scheme, not this one; the organisation must subscribe to the Fair Practice Code, the Culture Governance Code and the Diversity and Inclusion Code; and artist fees must be realistic and included in the budget. The European Sex Workers' Rights Alliance (ESWA) brings back its Digital Rights Gathering in 2026 as The (W)horrors Edition, in Barcelona just after Halloween. It is a capacity and community-building space by and for sex workers, convened to confront the surveillance, censorship and digital violence they face online and to imagine and build more resilient digital futures. A limited number of spaces is reserved for allies working in adjacent digital rights and harm reduction spaces to host sessions. TWO CALLS ARE OPEN. (1) CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS, for sex workers who want to deepen their knowledge of digital rights, online safety and community resilience. Requirements: be a current or former sex worker who is also a member of an organisation in ESWA's network; be available for three days of interactive sessions, skill-sharing and collective learning on 2, 3 and 4 November, and free from 1 November (travel out) through 5 November (travel home), even though some final-day sessions are optional. Selected participants receive full funding covering travel, accommodation and food. (2) CALL FOR TRAINERS AND SESSION PROPOSALS, for facilitators, trainers and educators experienced in digital rights, online safety or sex worker-led organising, who want to deliver an interactive workshop, skill-share or creative session. Sessions run 90 minutes and are compensated at EUR 300 per session, with travel, accommodation and meals covered. Open to current or former sex workers, and to allies with experience in digital rights, digital discrimination, digital security and related fields. SESSION STRANDS: Digital (W)horrors, naming the threats faced online and unpacking how surveillance, censorship and platform policy work against sex workers, including shadowbanning and algorithmic censorship, over-zealous content moderation, law enforcement and third-party surveillance, deplatforming, non-consensual data scraping and retention, and the platforms and policies that enable them; Building Resilience, practical hands-on skills covering open source and privacy-respecting software, how and why to divest from Big Tech platforms, alternative and encrypted communication tools, digital security basics such as protecting data, devices and identity, and other harm-reduction strategies for working and organising online; Imagining Better Futures, creative forward-looking sessions on what a sex worker friendly internet would look like, including prototyping inclusive digital tools, platforms and spaces built by and for sex workers, new apps, alternative social platforms, community-owned tech, and speculative design exercises; Resourcing the Group, sessions focused on care and resilience, including writing and reflection, grounding and somatic exercises, tools for self-care and sustainability in activism, and space for radical rest. The Mondriaan Fund's International Art Presentation grant helps art institutions and festivals abroad present current work by living visual artists from the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, covering costs that raise the work's visibility and fall outside the host's regular budget. WHO: internationally recognised institutions outside the Kingdom whose main purpose is showing contemporary art (not sales); commercial galleries are excluded (they use Art Fair International). Dutch and Caribbean-Kingdom artists with at least one year of professional practice can apply for their own personal costs. WHAT IS FUNDED: return travel for the artist and guest curator (one production trip and one opening visit), up to EUR 1,000 per person for lodging, transport and insurance of the work, up to 50 percent of production costs for new site-specific commissions (the host must pay the artist a realistic fee), up to 25 percent of publication costs and up to 50 percent of film subtitling. Artists may not be asked to pay to take part. Guest curators from the Netherlands need at least two years of curatorial experience. Pro Helvetia supports presentations outside Switzerland of contemporary artists, photographers and architects from Switzerland, with applications generally made by the host institution or festival. WHO: established cultural institutions and organisers with international reach based outside Switzerland; exhibitions normally run at least four weeks, which does not apply to festivals and similar events. WHAT IS FUNDED: transport and insurance, equipment rental, materials for temporary artworks, fees for the participating artists, photographers and architects from Switzerland, and their economy-class travel (no accommodation). TIMELINE: requests up to CHF 25,000 can be submitted year-round with a decision within eight weeks; CHF 25,001 to 50,000 year-round with a decision within four months; over CHF 50,000 by 1 March, 1 June, 1 September or 1 December. Projects need a clear connection to Switzerland, and only complete, on-time applications are considered. APPLICATION: via the Pro Helvetia online portal. Caza d'Oro is an international contemporary art centre and residency in Le Mas d'Azil, Ariège, that invites artists to research and make work in the area, with public activities, outreach and an exhibition of the work made during the stay. It offers three three-month residencies for visual artists each year, selected by committee. TO APPLY: applications are accepted all year by email (cazadoro@cazadoro.org) or post, using the application form on the candidatures page. Artists selected for the following year are notified in July. No application fee is stated, and the published pages give no nationality, age or career-stage limits.
OSIP is the European Space Agency's standing front door for unsolicited novel ideas, launched in 2019 and now the main entry point for new concepts into ESA, both in response to specific problems and through open calls. HOW IT WORKS: ideas are submitted through two mechanisms. Campaigns are targeted calls responding to specific questions with defined timelines (recent examples include Future Navigation Demonstrators and elements for the EOCognitiveLab mission); Channels are permanently open, open-ended calls on broader topics with no deadline. Submissions can go through an optional community discussion phase, with voting and comments, before expert evaluation by ESA. WHO CAN SUBMIT: individuals, businesses, universities and organisations anywhere in the world. The catch for funding: to implement a funded idea yourself, you must be eligible to do business with ESA under Article 18 of its procurement regulations, which in practice means affiliation with an entity in an ESA member state. WHAT FUNDING LOOKS LIKE: successful ideas are typically supported as co-funded PhD or postdoctoral research (ESA plus a university), early technology development activities, or system studies; amounts vary by route and campaign. WHY IT IS ON THE DESK: this is the one genuinely public, always-open route into ESA for independent researchers, technologists and artists working with space data or space technology concepts; new campaigns appear regularly, so checking the platform periodically is worthwhile.
