The Schaufler Lab at TUD Dresden University of Technology, a joint project with The Schaufler Foundation, invites applications for its six-month artist-in-residence at the interface of art and science for 2027. The theme of the Lab's third funding phase (2027 to 2030) is Energy Cultures in Transition: how forms of energy and energy transitions shape and are shaped by cultural practices, value systems, power relations, environmental relationships and imaginaries of the future. Residents work with the researchers of the Schaufler Kolleg graduate college and the wider university, with access to humanities, natural-science and engineering labs, and give lectures, talks and workshops, including a collaboration with the Dresden University of Fine Arts. Past residents include Quadrature, Mario Pfeifer, Rosa Barba and Esmeralda Conde Ruiz. ELIGIBILITY: internationally active artists or artist groups in media art, conceptual art, performance and related fields with completed international projects and exhibitions, an interest in exchange between artistic and scientific research, and proficient German or English; presence on site in Dresden is required by arrangement. Dance Ireland's residency programme at DanceHouse, Dublin, gives dance artists paid studio time to develop ideas for a new work, carry out artistic research or maintain a studio practice. It is aimed at artists and projects that are not otherwise funded. WHAT YOU GET: EUR 750 per week for the participating artist, subsidised studio space, an additional EUR 750 distance bursary for artists based more than 100 km from Dublin, and one dedicated Disabled Dance Artist residency with a EUR 750 bursary and access budget. ELIGIBILITY: Professional Members of Dance Ireland for the general residencies (allow at least a week to renew membership before the deadline); the Disabled Dance Artist residency does not require membership but is for Irish or Ireland-based artists. EXTRA, a Bordeaux association that publishes book-objects about space, invites proposals for a residency to create a book-object at the crossroads of architecture, publishing and pedagogy, hosted at Fabrique POLA in Bordeaux. Residents spend four weeks of research and creation between January and June 2027 and test the project with a public of their choosing (for example early childhood, school groups or older people). WHO: artists, architects, landscape architects, urban planners, graphic designers, authors and other professionals interested in questions of space; individual, duo or collective applications; no age limit and no stated geographic restriction, though the call is in French. The project must be unpublished and not already under a publishing contract, and applicants must be able to step away from other work during the residency periods. WHAT YOU GET: a EUR 6,000 bursary in three instalments (one bursary per project, even for collectives), up to EUR 500 for materials and up to EUR 1,000 for travel on receipts (sustainable transport preferred), accommodation for up to two people, a workspace at Fabrique POLA, support from EXTRA for the research and public experiments, a presentation at the venue, and possible publication of the book-object under a separate contract with EXTRA. Leitrim Sculpture Centre (LSC), with Leitrim County Council, offers up to four Exhibition Residencies for visual artists in 2027. Each residency lasts up to eight weeks, between mid-February and mid-November 2027, and ends with a one-person exhibition at the Centre. ALLOCATION: up to one residency for an artist based in Leitrim; up to three for artists from elsewhere in Ireland or internationally, including artists from minority ethnic and migrant backgrounds. SUPPORT: EUR 4,000 artist fee (inclusive); a private studio apartment with broadband; access to all of the Centre's facilities; free specialist technical support from LSC staff for up to 20 hours a month; free exhibition installation support; and curatorial support. Realities in Transition (RiT2), a Creative Europe XR cooperation project, and Beta Festival in Ireland invite artists, technologists, storytellers, engineers, hackers and designers to develop XR, interactive, multi-user work that explores technology through relationships between human, artificial and more-than-human intelligence, with a focus on decolonial thinking and interdependence. Three artists are selected, each paired with a creative technologist and working as a group. WHAT YOU GET: a EUR 15,000 grant per artist for a six-month hybrid residency from March to August 2027, with an in-person period at Beta in May to June 2027, a Test Lab in June 2027 and a showcase at Beta Festival in November 2027. SAHA Studio is SAHA Association's research and production residency in Istanbul. The 13th term selects five professionally practising visual artists (duos and collectives allowed; no medium or age requirement) for six months of studio work with a budget, curatorial feedback, mid-term gatherings and a closing 'SAHA Studio Open' presentation. Projects must not be preparation for a commercial gallery show. SELECTION: a preliminary jury of seven former residents, then a Selection and Advisory Board interviews a shortlist of ten; evaluation runs 15 November to 22 December 2026. The Athens Residency is the flagship program of ARCAthens, a not-for-profit founded in 2017, offering fully funded Fellowships for visual artists and curators to live and work in Athens. The residency is structured and research-driven, built around arranged studio and private collection visits, institutional access and community events, balanced with time for independent work. Fellows take part in one public engagement event organized by ARCAthens and must stay based in Athens for the full residency. ELIGIBILITY: international curators and visual artists residing outside Greece. SUPPORT: ARCAthens provides housing (private bedroom and bathroom, shared common spaces), travel, a Fellowship Prize and a weekly stipend; Visual Art Fellows get studio access. In the Fall 2026 round this was a USD 3,000 Fellowship Prize plus USD 200 per week. Fellows cover food, local transport and any production or shipping costs; there is no production budget. Witte Rook (Breda) and the Ukrainian platform IZOLYATSIA run Digital Explorers (Across Borders), a fully online residency program exploring the artist-in-residence of the future through cross-border collaboration. Each of three phases pairs one artist from the Netherlands with one from Ukraine, working together for about three months on the common.garden platform. WHAT YOU GET: EUR 1,800 fee plus EUR 1,000 material budget per artist (both excluding VAT), expert discussions, technical support, a physical and online exhibition (final exhibitions planned for spring 2028) and a published article about the creative process. ELIGIBILITY: artists and makers working in digital culture and interested in new technology who live and work in the Netherlands or Ukraine; proficiency in English required. AIR-M Ebenböckhaus and the non-profit Salta art, in partnership with ERA Foundation, offer a residency for two contemporary visual artists from South America at the Ebenböckhaus in Munich-Pasing, Germany, from 7 July to 29 September 2027. Since 2022 the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich has collaborated with Salta art to extend the residency programme to South America; ERA Foundation's support funds the second position. WHAT YOU GET: a grant and accommodation contract of EUR 1,300 per month from the City of Munich, rent-free accommodation in a shared apartment with individual lockable rooms, three work and presentation rooms (52 m2) in the house, return tickets from South America (economy / 2nd class), a shared studio at Empfangshalle in the Museumsquartier, a EUR 600 research trip allowance and a MakerPlus membership at MakerSpace Munich (wood, metal, electronics, IoT, laser cutting, additive manufacturing, textile workshops). A mentoring initiative pairs each resident with a Munich-based curator for up to three meetings, a research trip is organised, and an Open Studio event closes the residency. A curator from South America will also live and work at the house for part of the period. ELIGIBILITY: professional visual artists (painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, video, digital art, performance or interdisciplinary practices) born and based or residing in South America, over 18, not students, who pursue art as their main occupation and can demonstrate professional experience; former residents of Villa Waldberta or Ebenböckhaus are not eligible. A good level of spoken English is required and applications must be completed in English. International interdisciplinary residency run by the Democracy Foundation in Kuldiga, Latvia, as part of the Liepaja 2027 European Capital of Culture programme. Six participants from different fields and European countries explore new ways not only to talk about democracy but to experience it, developing activities for the Kuldiga Democracy Festival, engaging the local community and experimenting with formats that make audiences active participants. WHO: artists, cultural practitioners, designers, educators, researchers, civic activists and people from other professional backgrounds; applicants must be residents of European countries. DATES: 3-23 August 2027. SUPPORT: accommodation in Kuldiga's Old Town; a EUR 1,000 stipend per participant to cover expenses including travel; and a separate budget of up to EUR 1,000 per participant for developing and implementing their activity. Artistic research and creation residency 'A Living Valley: A Sensitive Evocation of the Herault Valley', run by Montpellier 2028 - Terres de culture and the Communaute de communes Vallee de l'Herault as part of L'Abbaye des Possibles, a project reimagining the former Aniane Abbey as a place for contemporary creation. The valley is approached as a living being, shaped by voices, silences, movements, memories and transformations. WHO: an artistic duo bringing together visual arts and musical/sound creation, or two complementary research projects; apply individually or as an established duo. No age limit, no geographical restriction. WORK: build a sensitive portrait of the valley through encounters with inhabitants, collecting stories and sounds, workshops and experimentation, drawing on local landscapes, villages, heritage and archives. TIMELINE: eight weeks (non-consecutive allowed) between January and April 2027; a first public presentation before the end of the 2026-2027 school year and a second in autumn 2027 as part of Event 27. One residency for a freelance audio practitioner (composer, sound designer, audio maker, artist or researcher) registered in the Netherlands, to develop an existing project into a spatial, story-led sound work. STRUCTURE: a two-day introductory course in immersive audio, then three days of studio work in IAN's mobile Immersive Audio Lab (a dome with 25 Genelec loudspeakers and 3 subwoofers, Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 and Ambisonics up to fourth order; own computer and software welcome), ending with a public work-in-progress at the IAN Festival at Arnolfini, Bristol. RESEARCH FOCUS: sound-first storytelling, sonic stories for and by multiple audiences including the non-human, and the whole body in space as the site of immersive experience. Mentoring by Prof. Kate Pullinger (NET Lab, Bath Spa University) and Dr Angela McArthur (UCL). The resident also writes an editorial piece for The Writing Platform, published March 2027. Themed international residency: three artists, duos or collectives are selected for one of three four-month periods between February 2027 and January 2028 to work on the 2027 theme 'On Absence'. Each resident receives EUR 1,100 per month and a rent-free furnished studio apartment in central Weimar; the programme closes with a group exhibition the following year. ELIGIBILITY: open worldwide, all ages and disciplines; currently enrolled students are excluded; applications in English or German. DEADLINE: 22 November 2026.
TRACES is a new art and science residency run by the Foundation for the Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (FDDM) with EPFL Valais-Wallis, Energypolis, the City of Sion and the Canton of Valais. The 2027 pilot embeds one visual artist for three months in Prof. Sascha Feldmann's Laboratory for Energy Materials at EPFL, which works on light-matter interactions and soft semiconductors for flexible solar cells, energy-efficient screens and emerging quantum technologies. The artist develops original work in dialogue with the lab around the energy transition and the materials of the future, with studio and production space, scientific mentoring and a public final presentation on 15 April 2027. ELIGIBILITY: confirmed, professional international visual artists aged 25 or over who finished their studies at least two years ago and have at least two years of professional practice; applications in English or French with a letter of intent (two A4 pages), portfolio and CV via the online form. Visual Voices invites artists working at the intersection of art, sustainability and community life to the Nicosia Monastery of Arts Residency in Nicosia, Cyprus. The residency supports site-specific experimentation, community engagement and public showcases, with the aim of an artist-led regeneration of the Walled City of Nicosia and a focus on practices relevant to post-conflict contexts. Two artists are selected for six months, February to July 2027. SUPPORT: EUR 6,000 artist fee per artist; production costs of EUR 1,400; travel of EUR 600-1,000; and shared accommodation. The Academie de France a Madrid at the Casa de Velazquez offers 12 one-year residencies for 2027-2028 to young graduates and established artists developing a creative project in the Iberian Peninsula. Applicants declare one main discipline: drawing, printmaking, sculpture, painting, architecture, music composition, choreography, photography, or film and video (multidisciplinary development during the year is welcome). REQUIREMENTS: over 18; a higher arts diploma or a body of work judged by the committee; good French (application and interview in French); individual applications only (no collectives); at most three applications per lifetime. STATUS: EU/Schengen nationals must show affiliation to an artist/author or self-employed scheme; non-EU applicants need a French residence permit allowing work (to join URSSAF artists/authors) or a Schengen residence and work permit from another EU state plus artist-author status there, covering the whole residency. Research and creation studio residencies in Brussels for artists working in the performing arts in the broad sense: dance, performance, theatre and crossovers with other disciplines (projects that are purely circus, visual art, music or for young audiences are excluded). WHAT YOU GET: one to two weeks of free studio space tailored to your project, a EUR 750 flat fee per selected project for travel and lunch, overnight guesthouse accommodation for international artists subject to availability, basic technical equipment in some studios, and an optional moment to share work with other residents. ELIGIBILITY: open to Belgian and international artists and collectives at any career stage. Applications can be written or submitted as audio or video, in Dutch, French or English. The Jan van Eyck Academie's general open call for its 2028 residency year: 30 to 32 artists, curators, designers, writers, architects and other artistic researchers spend 11 months (15 January to 15 December 2028) in Maastricht, across material-based and research-driven practices, with access to the academy's labs and community. Individuals, duos, collectives and candidates with children can apply; duos and collectives submit one application and pay one fee. The Mensch Maschine VISIT Residency Program is an annual fellowship offering four fully funded fellowships to artists from around the world, run by the JUNGE AKADEMIE of the Akademie der Künste (Berlin) with VISIT, the artist-in-residence programme of the E.ON Foundation, E-WERK Luckenwalde and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art (Warsaw). The 2027 edition particularly encourages projects at the intersection of art, energy and ecology exploring the theme ENERGY GHOSTS: the unseen dimensions of energy approached through mythology, cosmology or speculative fiction, the invisible infrastructures, histories and residues that haunt contemporary life, and energy as an ecological, political or spiritual force. Proposals are welcome from visual art, performance, film, installation, sound, writing and new media. WHAT YOU GET: EUR 20,000 per fellow for artist fees and production costs of a new project (research and development, travel, material and presentation costs); three fellows receive studio space and accommodation at E-WERK Luckenwalde (a former power station about 40 minutes south of Berlin), one is accommodated by the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. The three-month residency runs roughly September to November 2027 with on-site presence of at least 75% required, a retreat at Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw in September 2027, events across the three venues, and a closing symposium in October 2027 at the Akademie der Künste where fellows show work in progress alongside the 2026 cohort. Hordaland Kunstsenter, founded in 1976 as Norway's first artist-run art centre, invites artists based in the Nordic and Baltic countries to apply for its 2027/2028 residency programme in central Bergen, supported by the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture. The centre does not privilege any medium and is especially interested in practices that move between disciplines, including exhibition-making, performance, sound, publishing, moving image, socially engaged and research-based or discursive work. WHO: artists with a permanent address in Sapmi, Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Sweden, Aland, Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania (citizenship not required); artists based in Norway, full-time students and artistic PhD candidates are not eligible; visa costs are the resident's own. EHIN invites artists to explore hybrid intelligence through the shared agency of the more-than-human world: biocomputing, interspecies and multi-species communication, biofabrication, sensing and biohybrid systems, building new artistic narratives rooted in ecological knowledge. Six artists are selected, one per host (Kersnikova Dirty Lab in Ljubljana, ZKM Hertzlab in Karlsruhe, Kontejner in Zagreb, LABoral in Gijon, CPN in Belgrade, GLUON in Brussels with Malda Lab Utrecht), each paired with a biocomputing expert. STRUCTURE (about 12 months): Phase 1, February to September 2027, on-site residency at the first host ending in an Open Dirty Lab public event; Phase 2, October 2027 to January 2028, co-production at a partner lab of the artist's choice, ending in an exhibition-ready artwork; works are then shown locally and in a final group exhibition and symposium at ZKM (Phase 3, to October 2028). FUNDING: a fixed EUR 25,000 grant per artist covering artist fee (max 35%) and production/technical costs, paid 40/40/20; travel and accommodation arranged separately with the host institution(s); the second host may add a conditional co-production budget. Germany's flagship residency awards for visual artists, architects, writers and composers, administered by the Kulturstiftung der Laender for the federal government. One application window covers the Rome Prize at Villa Massimo (10 months, EUR 3,000/month, international visibility expected), Casa Baldi in Olevano Romano (3 months, EUR 3,000/month), the Deutsches Studienzentrum in Venice (3 months, EUR 1,534/month) and a 6-month Paris residency (approx. One of the best-known international artist residencies: established artists live and work in Berlin for a year (six months for film) and become part of the city's cultural scene. Applications are open in literature, music and sound, and film; visual arts fellows are nominated by a jury and cannot apply. ELIGIBILITY: established artists with their own voice and standing, no upper age limit; students and recent graduates are not eligible (doctoral students are). German nationals and artists residing primarily in Germany are excluded, with narrow exceptions for German dual nationals abroad and recent arrivals. Alumni cannot reapply. Residency giving emerging artists time and space away from their usual routine. Residents live and work on site in Switzerland for about three months on a project that grows out of the place. SITES: a 1950s post office in Flims (Canton Grisons); a late-1800s hotel on the Furka Pass; and a stone warehouse in Ponte Brolla (Ticino), which hosts several artists at once and is built for exchange between disciplines. WHO: mainly emerging visual artists; concepts from another discipline that suit the site may also be eligible. SUPPORT: studio, accommodation, a CHF 500 monthly stipend, and mentoring on presenting work and planning exhibitions; an open studio for visitors is possible where it suits. Part of Mophradat's Art Time residencies: a three-week residency at BUDA in Kortrijk, Belgium, for a performing artist from the Arab world finalising a new production, culminating in its premiere at NEXT Festival. Fields: performance, dance and interdisciplinary contemporary performance; unconventional projects with experimental forms or progressive discourses are encouraged. Concert proposals are not eligible. The organisation-side strand of Culture Moves Europe, the EU's flagship mobility scheme for artists and cultural professionals, funds organisations to host artists in residence. WHO: newly or well-established legal entities registered and based in a Creative Europe country and active in architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, literature, music, performing arts or visual arts, with capacity to host one to five residents from other Creative Europe countries. WHAT YOU GET: EUR 50 per day per resident for the host, plus accessibility support of EUR 375, 675 or 1,200; residents receive EUR 30 per day, a travel allowance of EUR 400 or EUR 800 and optional top-ups (green travel, overseas regions, family, visa). PROCESS: apply in English via the Goethe Application Portal, registering as Organisation/Enterprise and selecting the 2026-2027 call for residency hosts; results by 9 March 2027, then hosts select residents and submit residency info cards between 9 March and 31 July 2027, with residencies starting from 12 April 2027. Regional residency programme pairing an artist with an Ile-de-France venue for a creation residency in visual, digital or urban arts. The artist receives a bourse of EUR 2,400 gross per month for 2 to 10 months, and the venue receives support for its mediation programme around the residency. ELIGIBILITY: professional artists affiliated to the French artist social-security regime (in practice, artists working in France), applying jointly with the host venue. Caza d'Oro is an international contemporary art centre and residency in Le Mas d'Azil, Ariège, that invites artists to research and make work in the area, with public activities, outreach and an exhibition of the work made during the stay. It offers three three-month residencies for visual artists each year, selected by committee. TO APPLY: applications are accepted all year by email (cazadoro@cazadoro.org) or post, using the application form on the candidatures page. Artists selected for the following year are notified in July. No application fee is stated, and the published pages give no nationality, age or career-stage limits.
The Basel House of Film, run by the Verein Filmhaus Basel und Umgebung, offers a three month residency for emerging artists working in film and television. Residents receive housing at the Filmhaus in the Basel old town plus a stipend to cover travel and living costs. There is no obligation to produce work, and residents can use the open schedule to write a script, prepare a film, draw storyboards, or edit. The facility includes a clubhouse, meeting room, office space, a small cinema with VR equipment, and an editing and grading suite. The program targets up and coming filmmakers, and both national and international applicants are welcome. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through the online form, followed by a CV, motivation letter, and portfolio sent to the residency email.
