The NYC track of Eyebeam's AGENCY residency cycle supports New York City-based artists exploring questions of agency at a moment when AI systems increasingly act, decide and carry out tasks on our behalf: how to preserve human agency as these systems shape human behavior, how to assert agency in imagining and building the societies we inhabit, and what agency becomes when understood as collective, relational, entangled and more-than-human. Projects might engage AI directly but do not have to; critical and creative approaches to power, autonomy, technological systems, collective action, human and nonhuman relationships, and the social and material structures of agency are all welcome, including reimagining AI through collective governance, repair, rehearsal or mischief, and repurposing AI systems toward new tools, methods and models for the public good. Residents receive a USD 5,000 stipend, mentorship, and access to tools and technical expertise through Eyebeam's network. ELIGIBILITY: individuals only (no collectives this cycle); not enrolled in a full-time degree program; not committed to another residency during the term; must live in New York City within the five boroughs and be able to work on site at Eyebeam at least one day a week for the full term. Annual residency in which artists live at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest and create site-specific work inspired by total immersion in the natural environment. WHO: visual and mixed-media artists, including those working with sound and with performance that incorporates visual elements. STAY: 6-8 weeks recommended; it can be split into two periods of at least three weeks each, and full immersion is preferred but flexible. OUTPUT: a site-inspired artwork, temporary installation or project donated to the Bernheim Foundation, plus public engagement (demonstrations, workshops, lectures, and participation in one of Bernheim's programmes or annual events). SUPPORT: USD 2,500 stipend; furnished rustic one-bedroom cabin with full kitchen, bath and Wi-Fi; modest heated studio with good natural light near a 32-acre lake; guidance from Bernheim's horticulture and operations teams, ecologists, scientists, naturalists and forest managers; free or heavily discounted classes, workshops and night walks; and participation in public and private events promoting the Arts in Nature programme. Wave Farm, the Warhol Foundation-backed transmission arts center in Acra, NY, opens one application covering all its 2027 opportunities: the Transmission Art Residency, the Spatial Sound Residency, and two Radio Art Fellowship tracks (Research, and Community Engagement) connected to Wave Farm's WGXC radio station. WHAT YOU GET: a USD 1,000 stipend for each 10-day residency and USD 2,000 for each two-month fellowship, with access to Wave Farm's research library, transmitter and receiver equipment, and on-site staff support to develop a new transmission artwork. ELIGIBILITY: international; collaborations allowed; full-time students are ineligible except rare post-graduate cases; past residents and fellows may reapply; applicants may apply to as many opportunities as they wish but will be offered at most one; DJ sets are explicitly ineligible. CISAC's 2027-2028 fellowship application is open across seven tracks: Artificial Intelligence and Laws of Armed Conflict; AI in Strategic Stability and Military Competition; Geopolitics of Artificial Intelligence; India-U.S. Security Studies; Natural Sciences or Engineering International Security (for natural scientists and engineers researching scientific and technical aspects of security topics); Nuclear Security; and International Security. Applicants are considered for all fellowships they are eligible for. Fellows spend the academic year in residence at Stanford engaged in research and writing, participating in seminars and collaborating with CISAC faculty and the wider community. CAREER STAGES: predoctoral (currently enrolled PhD students), postdoctoral (completed PhD or DPhil), and junior faculty or professionals. FUNDING: stipends are provided (predoctoral comparable to Stanford Graduate Fellowships plus tuition; postdoctoral and professional stipends commensurate with experience), though exact amounts are not published; non-US citizens may apply and visas are available through the fellowship. The Adirondack Experience museum on Blue Mountain Lake offers four one-month artist residencies for June, July, August and September 2027. Residents work publicly on their own practice a minimum of six hours a day (roughly 10:00-16:00) three days a week in the museum's public areas, and spend two days a week (Fridays and Saturdays, 10:00-16:30) engaging visitors in the Art Lab makerspace. WHAT YOU GET: USD 5,000 stipend for the residency, USD 500 travel allowance, USD 250 Art Lab materials allowance, and free housing in a large bedroom on the second floor of the museum's Residence building with shared bathroom, kitchen and dining access, parking, utilities, wi-fi and laundry. ELIGIBILITY: visual artists with a portfolio of at least five works exhibited publicly (museums, public, university or private galleries) or sold to private collectors; digital and performance artists must explain how visitors will have an enriching experience watching them at work; open internationally, but ADKX cannot sponsor visas, so non-US artists arrange their own. CONDITIONS: artists provide their own materials outside the Art Lab allowance, and the museum retains first option to purchase one work created during the residency at fair market price. Two-year residency for exceptional, highly motivated emerging artists and critical writers committed to developing a sustainable practice. Over the 23-month term, Core Fellows receive USD 100,000 (USD 50,000 a year) plus a health and wellness stipend, a private studio and regular studio visits from regional, national and international artists and curators. They get free and discounted classes at the Glassell School of Art and can request access to its studios (painting, printmaking, digital and film photography, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics), and borrowing privileges at the MFAH Hirsch Library and Rice University's Fondren Library. PROGRAMME: a group exhibition in the spring of year one and a solo exhibition or project in the spring of year two (critics-in-residence propose their own second-year outcome); a public artist lecture and open studio in year one; a second open studio and gallery talk in year two. SELECTION: a jury of arts professionals selects fellows on the quality of submitted work and the potential impact of the Houston residency on their practice; when qualifications are comparable, priority goes to a Houston-based artist or critic. The Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research offers three residential fellowships for Native American artists: the Eric and Barbara Dobkin Fellowship for Native women artists working in any media (including digital art and film/video), the Ronald and Susan Dubin Fellowship for traditional arts, and the Rollin and Mary Ella King Fellowship for Native visual artists from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico or Utah. Each includes a USD 15,000 stipend, housing and studio space on the SAR campus, a supplies allowance and travel. The Roger Tory Peterson Institute's artist-in-residence program nurtures nature artists with a week in Jamestown, New York, and facilitated access to the Peterson Collection, inclusive of Roger Tory Peterson's original field guide art, fine art, films, slides, and personal papers. WHAT YOU GET: a USD 1,000 honorarium, with housing, per diem, and travel reimbursement for out-of-town artists. AFTERWARDS: residents create a body of work inspired by their time at RTPI, featured in a solo exhibition at the institute the following year.
