ELIGIBILITY: two Researcher-in-Residence positions in 2027. Open to early-career researchers of any discipline (data science, social science, computer science, humanities) who are currently working on a PhD or within 5 years of their PhD end date. You must have, or be able to secure, an affiliation with a Dutch university or research institute willing to second you; external PhD students may use the funding to obtain such a contract. Your project must make use of one or more of the KB digital collections and you must be able to work with primarily Dutch data. You must be available at 0.5 FTE over 6 months and able to spend two days a week on-site at the KB in The Hague. COLLECTIONS: over 130 million digitized pages of newspapers, magazines, radio bulletins and books from 1470 onward (via Delpher and DBNL), a born-digital web collection of more than 23,000 websites, ground-truth and derived datasets on the KB Lab, and metadata including Linked Data. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China, in partnership with artist-run space Making Space in Guangzhou, invites Netherlands-based artists, makers, curators, writers, researchers and other cultural practitioners to a six-week residency in spring 2027. Making Space (est. 2017) focuses on art and social practice with an emphasis on long-term research, local knowledge and care-driven collaboration. The residency is process-oriented with no obligation to produce finished work; the resident takes part in at least one public exchange (talk, workshop, reading group, screening, performance or open studio). SUPPORT: EUR 2,700 travel and artist fee subsidy (fixed per application; duos or collectives share the amount), accommodation in Guangzhou, shared studio space, curatorial and research support with access to local networks, and logistical support for public programming (extra funding may be considered for public programmes). The resident arranges their own China visa; Making Space provides an invitation letter. Stage IX is a practice-based research residency for immersive art, technology and science, run by Ruimtetijd at Fort Penningsveer with NXT Museum, 4DSOUND, the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), CWI and POPKRAFT, and funded through CIIIC/Stimuleringsfonds. Round 2 opened 15 September 2026 and offers four positions: two on the Emerging track (2 to 4 years of professional practice) and two on the Established track (5 or more years). Residents pursue eight months of supported research from January 2027 (extendable to ten) in practice areas including spatial sound, VR/XR/AR, gamified and interactive media, kinetic and light-based installation, scenography and immersive theatre, with access to the partners' studios, technology and mentorship. The Creative Industries Fund NL (Stimuleringsfonds) runs this residency with Videotage, a Hong Kong-based non-profit media arts institution specialising in the promotion, presentation, creation and preservation of moving image and media art in all forms and languages. The Fund is recruiting one Netherlands-based designer, maker or observer working in digital culture to spend two or three months at Videotage's studio space in Hong Kong in 2027, conducting research, broadening their network, developing new work inspired by Hong Kong, and presenting their findings or completed works. The residency encourages crossovers and experimentation, giving the participant space to explore new methodologies, widen their creative practice and produce work that pushes the boundaries of digital culture, with a focus on social and urban dynamics. The 2027 edition takes the technological 'black box' phenomenon as its starting point and invites the resident to respond to that theme within the context of Videotage. The Creative Industries Fund NL (Stimuleringsfonds) is recruiting one Netherlands-based designer, architect or spatial practitioner for a two-month residency in 2027 at Jatiwangi art Factory (JaF), an internationally recognised artistic collective based in a former roof tile factory in West Java, Indonesia. Jatiwangi's history is closely bound up with the colonial history of Indonesia: the Dutch government built large roof tile factories in the region in the early twentieth century, turning it into the most important centre of roof tile production in Southeast Asia. Now that this industry has largely disappeared, JaF develops new visions for the changing rural area with clay and community empowerment at their heart. The residency is part of Tahun Tanah, a recurring programme on the relationship between the people of Jatiwangi and the region's history of clay and terracotta civilisation; the 2027 theme is Elmu Ning Tanah (Learning from the Earth). As resident you explore with the local community what tanah (earth) means in this area, not only as a material for the terracotta industry but also as a carrier of history, memory and culture, and you help shape a future for the terracotta industry rooted in local knowledge, traditions and the needs of the community. The Creative Industries Fund NL (Stimuleringsfonds) is recruiting one Netherlands-based designer, architect or interdisciplinary maker for a three-month residency in 2027 across three locations in Suriname: Paramaribo, Moengo and Frederiksdorp, each with its own cultural, historical and social context. The residency is inspired by the Surinamese notion of alakondre (literally 'all countries'), which symbolises living together in cultural diversity and emphasises the power of coexisting differences. Rather than simply promoting harmony, alakondre acknowledges historical inequalities, cultural sensitivities and tensions ensuing from colonial and socio-economic realities, which demands openness and critical awareness of your position as a creative practitioner; personal stories, whether family history or questions of identity, can provide powerful entry points. A network of local partners supports the residency, and at each location a local maker selected by Surinamese partner organisations works alongside you, creating natural opportunities for creative exchange and dialogue. The Creative Industries Fund NL (Stimuleringsfonds) is recruiting one Netherlands-based designer, architect, spatial practitioner or maker for a two-month residency in 2027 at Think Tanger, a multidisciplinary cultural platform dedicated to stimulating culture, creativity, innovation and exchange in Tangier, Morocco. Founded in 2016, Think Tanger unites artists, designers, researchers, entrepreneurs and local communities to explore the urban and cultural dynamics of a city in transformation and to promote understanding and dialogue, working through alternative education, creative entrepreneurship, art production and participatory research. The residency was set up with the Fund to stimulate crossovers and experiments, initiate exchanges and learn from other people's perspectives, knowledge and ideas. It offers the opportunity to carry out research, expand your network and develop new work with a focus on design, urbanism and socio-spatial dynamics, creatively researching existing presuppositions and social issues in Tangier's unique urban context.
