TRACES is a new art and science residency run by the Foundation for the Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (FDDM) with EPFL Valais-Wallis, Energypolis, the City of Sion and the Canton of Valais. The 2027 pilot embeds one visual artist for three months in Prof. Sascha Feldmann's Laboratory for Energy Materials at EPFL, which works on light-matter interactions and soft semiconductors for flexible solar cells, energy-efficient screens and emerging quantum technologies. The artist develops original work in dialogue with the lab around the energy transition and the materials of the future, with studio and production space, scientific mentoring and a public final presentation on 15 April 2027. ELIGIBILITY: confirmed, professional international visual artists aged 25 or over who finished their studies at least two years ago and have at least two years of professional practice; applications in English or French with a letter of intent (two A4 pages), portfolio and CV via the online form. Laureate selected 7 December 2026. DEADLINE: 22 November 2026, 23:59 Swiss time (CET).
Residency giving emerging artists time and space away from their usual routine. Residents live and work on site in Switzerland for about three months on a project that grows out of the place. SITES: a 1950s post office in Flims (Canton Grisons); a late-1800s hotel on the Furka Pass; and a stone warehouse in Ponte Brolla (Ticino), which hosts several artists at once and is built for exchange between disciplines. WHO: mainly emerging visual artists; concepts from another discipline that suit the site may also be eligible. SUPPORT: studio, accommodation, a CHF 500 monthly stipend, and mentoring on presenting work and planning exhibitions; an open studio for visitors is possible where it suits. The organisers are open to discussing support for travel expenses. Applications are listed as rolling/open, with a deadline of 31 December 2026.
The Basel House of Film, run by the Verein Filmhaus Basel und Umgebung, offers a three month residency for emerging artists working in film and television. Residents receive housing at the Filmhaus in the Basel old town plus a stipend to cover travel and living costs. There is no obligation to produce work, and residents can use the open schedule to write a script, prepare a film, draw storyboards, or edit. The facility includes a clubhouse, meeting room, office space, a small cinema with VR equipment, and an editing and grading suite. The program targets up and coming filmmakers, and both national and international applicants are welcome. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through the online form, followed by a CV, motivation letter, and portfolio sent to the residency email.
