To mark the 40th anniversary of ERASMUS in 2027, the European Cultural Foundation is opening its historical archives for a Creative Research Fellowship: one professional creative practitioner will research ECF's lesser-known role in shaping the ERASMUS student mobility programme (from the European Institute of Education and the Office for Cooperation in Education to the ERASMUS Bureau, which ran the scheme until 1994) and translate that history into a public-facing artwork about what European belonging feels like and what the next ERASMUS could be. WHAT YOU GET: a EUR 10,000 grant for travel, living costs and production; a research residency at the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence during the first trimester of 2027; and presentation of the finished work in Brussels in September 2027, in partnership with the House of European History. make-a-thek, a Horizon Europe project (grant No. 101177660) coordinated by Fab Lab Barcelona at IAAC, connects creative spaces, public libraries and makers across Europe and beyond to share skills in circular fashion, traditional crafts and technology. Its open call runs two tracks. MOBILITY SCHEME (Track A): experienced practitioners (make-a-thek Experts) travel to an EU pilot location (Antwerp, Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Helsinki, Kranj, Milan, Opole, Reykjavik, Kyiv or Zaporizhzhia) to deliver a workshop, talk or hands-on training, with a EUR 1,000 stipend to support expenses. KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE PROGRAMME (Track B): learners, practitioners, makers, craftspeople and librarians travel to a 2-day in-person group meet-up (Cohort 1 in Barcelona between end of November and start of December 2026; Cohort 2 in Berlin in May 2027), then organise a local knowledge-sharing activity, with a EUR 850 stipend. Up to 12 participants per track annually. ELIGIBILITY: legal residents of EU member states, Horizon Europe associated countries, or the international pilot countries Ghana, South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines and Chile; proposals must align with at least one focus area: Circular Fashion, Digitising Traditional Crafts, or Open Technologies. Research and creation studio residencies in Brussels for artists working in the performing arts in the broad sense: dance, performance, theatre and crossovers with other disciplines (projects that are purely circus, visual art, music or for young audiences are excluded). WHAT YOU GET: one to two weeks of free studio space tailored to your project, a EUR 750 flat fee per selected project for travel and lunch, overnight guesthouse accommodation for international artists subject to availability, basic technical equipment in some studios, and an optional moment to share work with other residents. ELIGIBILITY: open to Belgian and international artists and collectives at any career stage. Applications can be written or submitted as audio or video, in Dutch, French or English. DEADLINE: 1 December 2026 for residencies between August and December 2027; selections announced end of February 2027.
The Flemish Arts Decree (Kunstendecreet) structural funding round for 2028-2032 is open. Werkingssubsidies are the backbone funding of the Flemish arts field: five-year operating grants for arts organisations, including festivals, production houses, arts centres, ensembles and platforms, covering continuous operation rather than single projects. WHO: professional arts organisations with a non-commercial character, established in Flanders or Brussels and addressing the Flemish community, active in visual, audiovisual and photographic arts, performing arts, music, architecture and design, or transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral arts. Your operation must fulfil one or more of five functions: development, production, presentation, participation and reflection. In this round every organisation applies for one policy period only; organisations currently funded for two periods must still submit a new plan. A project subsidy cannot be combined with a werkingssubsidie, and any running project subsidy must end by 31 December 2027. WHAT YOU GET: an annual operating grant for five years, with at least 50 percent of the grant to be spent on paying staff and artists; organisations choosing production or presentation functions need at least 20 percent own income. APPLICATION: via the KIOSK web application, using the official beleidsplan (policy plan) template and cijferbijlage (financial appendix). EHIN invites artists to explore hybrid intelligence through the shared agency of the more-than-human world: biocomputing, interspecies and multi-species communication, biofabrication, sensing and biohybrid systems, building new artistic narratives rooted in ecological knowledge. Six artists are selected, one per host (Kersnikova Dirty Lab in Ljubljana, ZKM Hertzlab in Karlsruhe, Kontejner in Zagreb, LABoral in Gijon, CPN in Belgrade, GLUON in Brussels with Malda Lab Utrecht), each paired with a biocomputing expert. STRUCTURE (about 12 months): Phase 1, February to September 2027, on-site residency at the first host ending in an Open Dirty Lab public event; Phase 2, October 2027 to January 2028, co-production at a partner lab of the artist's choice, ending in an exhibition-ready artwork; works are then shown locally and in a final group exhibition and symposium at ZKM (Phase 3, to October 2028). FUNDING: a fixed EUR 25,000 grant per artist covering artist fee (max 35%) and production/technical costs, paid 40/40/20; travel and accommodation arranged separately with the host institution(s); the second host may add a conditional co-production budget. ELIGIBILITY: individual artists or artist collectives who are residents or taxpayers in an EU member state or an eligible non-EU country (list in the guide), able to travel to the hosts, with a fiscal ID (VAT or similar), and not affiliated with consortium partners; an established practice with public exhibitions is expected. Artists apply to one host only and must spend at least 30 days on site and run two public Open Dirty Labs. Some hosts prefer wet-lab, electronics, data or digital fabrication experience; LABoral requires 6 to 8 weeks on site. SELECTION: top 3 per residency invited to pitch; results by end of January 2027. New Agents brings a small group of art practitioners (artists, curators and researchers) together for ten months to co-develop and realise a public event, such as a conference, festival or exhibition, that foregrounds the collective curatorial experience rather than the participants' individual practices. FORMAT: online workshops with invited artists and two-day online seminars led by each participant (March to June 2027), a one-week retreat in Athens (July 2027), and the public event in Brussels at the end of the program; full participation is mandatory. MONEY: a USD 6,000 stipend per participant (2,500 at the start, 2,500 midway, 1,000 at the end), plus retreat travel and an event budget covered by Mophradat. ELIGIBILITY: at least five years actively working in the arts with a track record of completed works or projects and current public projects; significant firsthand living experience in the Arab world regardless of heritage; native or strong Arabic plus basic English; residing within the GMT-1 to GMT+3 time zones; interest in collaborative work. Part of Mophradat's Art Time residencies: a three-week residency at BUDA in Kortrijk, Belgium, for a performing artist from the Arab world finalising a new production, culminating in its premiere at NEXT Festival. Fields: performance, dance and interdisciplinary contemporary performance; unconventional projects with experimental forms or progressive discourses are encouraged. Concert proposals are not eligible. ELIGIBILITY: Mophradat's general criteria (artists from the Arab world) plus: must have developed and presented previous works; must be working on a new, original project in contemporary performance; must be in the final development phase by September 2027 with confirmed co-producers and/or a financing plan, since the residency only partially covers production costs. Previous unsuccessful applicants may reapply. SUPPORT: an overall EUR 10,000, all included, covering travel and visa costs, residency per diems, coproduction costs and a presentation fee for the NEXT Festival performance, plus accommodation; partners help with visa applications and compensate the project if travel is impossible due to visa refusal. Flanders Arts Institute and the Kooperativa network offer fifteen mobility grants for Flanders-based artists and arts professionals in the visual arts, performing arts, music and sound to immerse themselves in the South-Eastern European arts sector. Participants spend 3 to 5 days job shadowing at one organisation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia or Slovenia, with mobility actions between 1 October 2026 and 30 June 2027. WHAT YOU GET: travel costs, accommodation and per diems per Erasmus+ formulas, plus up to EUR 300 for the host to cover any costs they might incur. ELIGIBILITY: artists and arts professionals based in Flanders, Belgium. APPLICATION: two steps; first email ward@kunsten.be with an outline of the project status, then submit a letter of intent from the host, visit planning, motivation and a description of the reporting format. Applications are reviewed in monthly cycles (8 September, 8 October, 9 November, 8 December 2026; 15 January, 8 February, 8 March 2027) and are accepted until 1 March 2027. AFTERWARDS: participants share their experience through a written report, video, talk or recording on an online platform.
Development bursaries for individual professional artists under the Flemish Arts Decree: free development time with no output obligation, across all disciplines of the professional arts including media/digital art and sound. Two strands: opkomend talent (EUR 7,500, one year) and bewezen talent (EUR 12,000 per year for one, two or three years). Two windows a year, closing 15 September and 15 March. ELIGIBILITY: artists connected to the Flemish Community, in practice living and/or working in Flanders or Brussels. DEADLINE: 15 March 2027 for the next round.
