The Societe des arts technologiques (SAT) in Montreal runs a research-creation residency program in arts and technologies for artists and collectives working in the performing arts and/or media arts. The residency funds a research-creation stage of a project in technological arts rather than the finalisation of a finished work, so the call weighs the exploration process and the innovation in it above a polished outcome. Each selected project receives a CAD 10,000 grant, whether the applicant is an individual artist or a collective, plus access to SAT spaces and equipment, technical and creative support from the SAT teams, mentoring and training activities, and documentation and archiving. Access to spaces and equipment is assessed against the project's needs and granted subject to availability. Travel, meal and accommodation costs beyond the grant are not covered. Open to professional artists and artistic collectives worldwide, at any level of experience and from any primary discipline, provided the profile and project suit immersive technologies; collectives must submit a joint portfolio showing they can carry out the project independently, particularly the visual and sound creation inside a dome. Each application must include a form and supporting documents setting out the concept, the technical solutions considered, and what will be explored during the residency. One application per project and per person; incomplete applications are not evaluated; use permanent, downloadable links rather than WeTransfer or similar temporary services. Struts Gallery, an artist-run centre in Sackville, New Brunswick (a rural community of roughly 6,000 people on the unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People in Mi'kma'ki), welcomes applications from professional visual and media artists at all stages of their careers for its annual Open Studio Residency Program. The program supports experimentation without the pressure to present a resolved body of work: artists may continue their practice, develop a new project or create site-specific work. The residency is artist-driven and independent, with staff assistance for community outreach and technical and logistical support. Residents are asked to creatively engage the community through at least one public event (artist talk, workshop or another artist-initiated event). WHAT YOU GET: CAD 3,250 artist fee, CAD 30 per diem (CAD 750 for 25 working days), travel up to CAD 800, CAD 200 for public-event materials, 24-hour access to an approx. 400 sq ft studio in the gallery (open to the public during operating hours), a private furnished two-bedroom apartment above the gallery, and access to extensive media arts equipment and facilities. ELIGIBILITY: professional artists at all career levels; currently enrolled students are not eligible. SELECTION: staff eligibility review, shortlisting by a committee of Struts members and artists, then Zoom interviews; the program is highly competitive (over 130 applications for 4 residencies in a typical year) and results are usually decided by 20 December. Est-Nord-Est offers eight-week residencies in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec, welcoming professional visual artists, whether established or emerging, from Quebec, Canada and other countries, with four artists per season. FUNDING: a CAD 2,080 residency honorarium, an individual studio-workshop that also serves as lodging, access to specialized equipment for wood, metal and ceramics, a documentation center, technical, artistic and logistical support, and seasonal bicycle access. Materials, travel and additional living expenses are the resident's responsibility. SESSIONS: Spring (19 April - 11 June 2027), Summer (5 July - 27 August 2027; a curated session with priority consideration for artists of African descent), Fall (27 September - 19 November 2027) and Winter (24 January - 18 March 2028).
